Companies will have 12 months to return money or 18 months to rebook tickets for customers who have canceled flights in the pandemic.

A new law has just been passed that aims to help the aviation sector, which has been hit by the crisis since the beginning of the pandemic. The law 14.034/2020 instituted a series of measures to help companies in the airline industry and brings some changes to the consumer.

The law originates in a provisional measure edited by the government due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus.

Credits on new trips

One of the main changes is the extension of the rebooking of tickets, which increased 6 months more, completing 18 months instead of 1 year. This means that all travelers who had flights canceled during the pandemic will be able to use the credit on new trips for a year and a half, regardless of whether the trip was paid for in cash, card or miles.

cash refund

If your intention is to get your money back, know that each airline has its own process to refund money to the consumer, but all are required to refund the value of canceled flights within 12 months from the date of travel. The new regulation is valid for flights scheduled between March 19 and December 31 of this year.

If instead of canceling, you want to give up making the trip, the same deadlines given for refunding tickets must apply. In this case, the difference is that the company is authorized to charge the amounts of charges that are provided for in the service provision contract.
