The “Popcorn Beach” belongs to the Canary Islands, Spain, and has become a fever on Instagram

Imagine walking on an extensive stretch of sand formed by popcorn. At least weird, right? This scenario that looks like it came out of a cartoon can be found in Popcorn Beach. The beach is northwest of Corralejo, on the island of fuerteventura, the second largest of the Canary Islands.

This exotic look is catching the attention of many bloggers and Instagram personalities who travel to the beach to enjoy the unique setting. Several very creative images have spread through social networks and the beach is becoming a darling among Europeans.

The peculiar look has an explanation: the popcorn sand is formed by pieces of white coral that are washed ashore and shaped by the sea and the wind, where they mix with volcanic ash and acquire an atypical shape.

It is worth remembering that this beach is not the best for those who want to sunbathe, since the Popcorn sand is not fluffy at all and can be quite uncomfortable. Even so, there is no denying that this is one of the most different and interesting places to visit in the world.
