The longest beach in Fernando de Noronha is also a spawning point for sea turtles from January to June. Located on the southeast side of the island, in the region called “Mar de Fora”, Praia do Leão is in the opinion of many people, the most beautiful landscape of the Fernando de Noronha Archipelago.
With very calm movement, the beach got its name due to a huge rock formation in the sea that resembles a sea lion lying down. Next to it is the Morro da Viuvinha, the name of a seabird that only builds its nests there to avoid being attacked by the tejuaçu, a type of lizard common on the island.
Although calm, the sea in this part of the coast is very agitated and it is necessary to be aware of the currents that appear from all sides pulling the sea in. For more peaceful bathing, look for the natural pools that form near the rocks.
