Current document remains valid until expiration, but will be replaced at renewal with a coat of arms version
Itamaraty has just released the new model of Brazilian passport on a social network, in which the image of the Cruzeiro do Sul and the expression “Mercosur Passport” appear replaced by the coat of arms of the Republic, as was already done until 2015.
The official publication of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that “Brazilians who travel or live abroad will carry a symbol of the country in their travel document”. The change in the cover of the document was foreseen in the government's first 100-day target plan.
The new passport will join the current model that has the cover as standard in Mercosur. Valid passports do not need to be replaced with the new model. The new cover will be automatically sent to applicants, according to issues or renewals.
The document request continues to be made from the Federal Police website and the common passport issuance fee, valid for ten years, is R$ 257.25. Check out our guide and learn step by step how to get your passport!
