THE Christmas Light Party attracts millions of people a year to the city of Lawn at the Rio Grande do Sul. This year, the celebration, which began on October 26, continues until January 14. The official opening took place with a presentation by the Orquestra de Gramado. Santa Claus received the key to the city and, in 20 days, the event sold around 60 thousand tickets.
In this season of South America's biggest Christmas party the novelty is the main spectacle. “Christmas Reunions” tells the story of a family that has spread across the world and fears losing its traditions. The presentation is packed with the most beautiful Christmas songs. Singers, musicians and artists interpret the repertoire with national and international classics. The show takes place every Wednesday and Saturday at 9:30 pm, on Lake Joaquina Rita Bier.
In all, it will be 81 days long, with more than 500 presentations. The program features four major shows: “Show de Acendimento” (free), “Reencontros de Natal”, “The Great Christmas Parade” and “Christmas Around the World”.
The Lighting Show, which takes place every day at 8:30 pm, tells the story of magical characters who work in a power plant and are responsible for lighting up the city of Gramado and turning on Christmas. The musical theater show, which even features Santa Claus himself, takes place in front of the Festivals Palace, in the center of Gramado. Open to the public and free, lasting about 20 minutes.
The show “Christmas around the World” tells the story of Sofia, a girl who has a birthday on Christmas Day and travels the world, along with her friends from the toy factory, discovering the most different Christmas traditions. The show takes place every Tuesday and Friday at Expo Gramado at 9pm.
In “Grande Parade de Natal” acrobats, dancers, skaters, actors and actresses enact all the enchantment of Christmas. Special effects and audience interactions bring out the noble feelings that make Christmas happen. In 2017, Love, Hope, Faith, Surprise and Joy enter the scene to remind everyone of what moves us on this very special date. The show takes place every Thursday and Sunday at Expo Gramado at 9:30 pm. In the months of November and December there is one more day: every Monday at 21:30.
And those are just the bigger events. Musical and theatrical shows take place throughout the city, every day at different times. The Shows on Rua Coberta are present every day from 7:30 pm. Vila de Natal, in Praça das Etnias, has local exhibitors, food and many artistic attractions, such as the Santa Claus House itself. The village has an entirely free program and is open to the public from 10 am to 10 pm, every day.
