Get in tune with nature and enjoy the parks of the Serra Gaúcha with centuries-old trees and adventure sports

Located 130 km from Porto Alegre, Lower leg is in the heart of saw gaucho and offers tourists many ecotourism options with waterfalls, trails and adventure sports. Another strong point of the city are the theme parks, which take visitors to -10°C or even back in time to face dinosaurs face to face.

Lower leg knew how to preserve and make the most of the nature that surrounds it, creating parks with breathtaking views such as Caracol, with a waterfall over 120 meters high, Parque da Serra, Sequoias, Pinheiro Grosso and Ferradura. In addition to these, there is the Alpen Park it leaves visitors in contact with the preserved forest, but differs by having more adventure attractions, such as roller coasters, zip lines, rappelling and tree climbing.

Other popular tourist spots are the theme parks, such as village of immigrants, which tells the story of the immigration that gave rise to the city, the prehistoric Florybal Magic Land Park and Valley of the Dinosaurs, the freezing Mundo Gelado, which takes tourists to -10°C, and the curious Mundo À Vapor, which brings together miniature machines that work with steam, such as pottery, foundry and paper mill.

The visitors have hosting options for all budgets, with many inns and hotels, but Lower leg it gets a little more expensive during the high season, which happens in winter due to snow and frost and in the months of November and December due to the end-of-year decoration known as Christmas Dreams.

Caracol Park 

Here is one of the main postcards of Canela, the Cascata do Caracol. Tourists can admire the more than 120 meters of waterfall from a viewpoint, but you have to take a breath for the 934 steps. On site it is also possible to hike and climb the Observador, a 30-meter tower with a panoramic elevator that leads to a platform with a 360° view of the park. The infrastructure offered is very good and has restrooms, grills, restaurants and souvenir shops.

Serra Park

This park takes visitors on a cable car ride over the beautiful canyons that form the Cascata do Caracol. Here you have a broad view of the region with preserved forest.

horseshoe park

Full of viewpoints, this park has a unique view of the Rio Caí Canyon, which has strong curves reminiscent of horseshoes. Located 13km from the center of Canela, it has trail options for all types of adventurers, from 10 minutes to 3 hours of walking.

Alpen Park

The park offers views of the entire valley in the region and also has access to an amusement park with a roller coaster and 3D simulator, and adventure sports, such as tree climbing, abseiling, climbing and zip lining.

stone cathedral

Located in the center of Canela, the church is 65 meters high and hosts the Sonhos de Natal festivities. Some shows take place in the cathedral's gardens and the stones on the wall are adorned with stars and projected lights.

How to get to Canela

By airplane

The nearest airport is Caxias do Sul (74km), but the most popular one ends up being Porto Alegre (130km) because the offer of flights is greater. In both places the traveler can rent a car or take the bus.

By car

Access from Porto Alegre is via BR-116, RS-122 and RS-470. If the driver leaves Caxias do Sul, take the RS-453 and RSC-470.

By bus

There are lines departing from several capitals towards Porto Alegre and from there the traveler must take another bus to cinnamon.

Best time to visit Canela

The city has two peak seasons during the year. The first takes place from May to August when winter brings frost and even snowfall, which attracts tourists from all over the country to enjoy the cold. The second highlight of the year for Canela is November and December, when the streets are filled with Christmas decorations.

In the coldest months, the average temperature is 6°C, while the warmest are around 20°C.
