Queues to buy marijuana: the country's government announced that it would close "coffee shops", famous for selling the weed
While in Brazil people compete for toilet paper and gel alcohol in the market, on the streets of amsterdam kilometer queues happen for another reason. THE coronavirus pandemic and the quarantine announcement made people in the Netherlands pledge to buy… marijuana.
Queues formed after Dutch Health Minister Bruno Bruins ordered the closure of "coffee shops", places that legally sell cannabis.

Some Dutch people were interviewed by the AFP portal in one of the rows in front of one of these stores. “In the next two months we may not be able to buy weed, so it would be nice to have at least some at home,” said a young man identified as Jonathan. “My friend called me five minutes ago, he saw the press conference. He's a good friend," he added.
However, last Thursday (19) the government decided to reverse the decision, reopening the coffee shops. Thus, the decision was taken to avoid encouraging illegal trafficking. According to the World Health Organization, the Netherlands has 1705 confirmed cases of coronavirus so far.
