Images taken near Santos Dumont Airport capture turtles swimming in Guanabara Bay

Videos with wild animals appearing in large urban centers have become common after isolation due to the new coronavirus. In Brazil, we are still in quarantine like the rest of the world and it seems that these changes have started to show effect here as well.

A resident of the City of Rio de Janeiro recorded a video in Guanabara Bay showing that with isolation, sea pollution is visibly decreasing. In the footage, you can see turtles swimming in crystal clear waters very close to the shore.

Guanabara Bay has its moment of fame in one of the most beautiful postcards in the world. Situated in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the area close to the Santos Dumont domestic airport, where the water is usually dirty, an anonymous person recorded this video. In an admirable way, he talks about the cleaning, even if momentary, of the Bay in the times of Coronavirus. Coincidence or not, Green Turtles (Chelonia mydas) freely enjoy their paradise. . The video caught the attention of residents who frequent this region of the city in relation to cleaning the water and the presence of animals. The author of the video claims that isolation due to the coronavirus would have caused the turtles to reappear.

However, some experts claim that this phenomenon may also be due to the arrival of a cold front at high tide during the full moon.
