Arctic igloo hotel offers traditional rooms and northern lights tours
If you've ever dreamed of trying sleep in an igloo, you can't miss this authentic arctic experience of spending a few nights in Greenland. THE Igloo Lodge, in Ilulissat, offers guests the opportunity to sleep in one of its six traditional, hand-built, ice houses.
Each igloo accommodates two people, making the inn the perfect location for couples or groups of up to 12 people. There's no need to worry about the cold, as the igloos come complete with reindeer pelts, specialized sleeping bags for extremely low temperatures, all in the midst of snow.
A cozy wooden cabin is on site, containing toilet facilities and a common area where meals are served. While outside temperatures can drop well below zero degrees, igloos remain around zero degrees Celsius – making sleeping on specialized outdoor gear more than comfortable.
In addition to the cozy space in the middle of one of the most inhospitable areas on the planet, the company also offers tailor-made travel itineraries like snowshoe hikes, snowmobiling and safaris to see the Aurora Borealis!
Experiences in the Arctic
“The best arctic adventures are all about experiencing authentic moments and creating lifelong memories, and this is an adventure that takes place in both,” says founder Jonny Cooper.
“As soon as you step into the igloo, you can see the artistry that goes into its creation, a skill that has been passed down through the generations.” And then to lie down and sleep there like the Innuit people have done for thousands of years before, it's a really special time.”
