A task force was mobilized to free the young whale in the city of Arraial do Cabo
On Saturday night (21), a young humpback whale was stranded in the Lagos Region, on the coast of Rio de Janeiro. The entire area was cordoned off so as not to disturb the work of the teams that finished the unraveling only on Sunday afternoon. Cable camp (RJ) is known worldwide for its beautiful beaches of light tones, attracting hundreds of tourists daily and this weekend some were surprised by the unexpected visit of a humpback whale.
The city has also received the title of Brazilian diving capital, precisely because it is located in a region very close to the open sea, which allows for very transparent water and a rich variety of marine life. The currents that pass near the city come from far away and also serve as passageways for numerous animals, including whales, the largest animals in the ocean.
It is not the first time that animals of this size have passed through the region of Cable camp, in Praia Grande, as the beach faces the open sea, it is not so rare to see large mammals passing along the beach. Dolphins and other whales have been stranded a few other times. In August, Inea announced the creation of a program focused on rescuing stranded animals on this part of the coast.
The humpback whale that arrived on the slope of Praia Grande, is still considered young and reaches 7 meters, weighing approximately 9 tons. The unraveling was only completed on Sunday, at 15:30, due to the influence of the tide. More than 50 people, including firefighters and biologists, took the animal to the water along with the support of boats, jetski and 2 backhoe loaders.
