A trip gourmet tour of the Douro Valley includes Portuguese wine tasting and dishes prepared by renowned chefs
A train that once carried kings and popes now offers a historic journey through Portugal aboard their preserved wagons. Fully restored in 2010, the Presidential Train offers a new concept of gastronomic travel and a unique experience through the beautiful landscapes of the Douro Valley.
The train remained on the tracks for over 100 years and initially served as a transport for the court of King D. Luís I. However, eight years ago, when it was on display at the National Railway Museum, it aroused the interest of businessman Gonçalo Castelo- white I wanted put it back to use to continue being part of history.
THE The Presidential Train travels from the charming São Bento station, in Porto, to Douro. On board, refinement and good taste are present with chefs renowned and Michelin-starred restaurants serving the meals. For 2019, there are still no confirmed names to command the kitchen of the luxury train.
The trip, lasting nine hours, takes place during the spring, from April to May, and in a second season during the grape harvest, between September and October. Those interested in enjoying this gastronomic tour will need to pay 500 euross per person.
