Mayan Train: Getting to know the historic sites of Mexico will be easier and more fun. Discover the new tourist itinerary called “Rota Maia”
One of the main attractions to visit the Mexico it is certainly to appreciate the archeology of the past. The great civilizations that occupied the Latin continent, before the arrival of the Spaniards, left architectural landmarks for posterity.
They represent a way of seeing and living the world that is unique and very different from what we are used to, although they hold mysteries that stir historians and tourists from all over. Making this trip – which, without exaggeration, is a trip to the past – is undoubtedly a humanitarian learning experience.
You Mayan temples are already part of the itinerary of visitors to the country, in addition, of course, to the natural landscapes and beaches with crystal clear waters. There are many investments in this segment of tourism in the country, and this time the Mexican government, together with the private sector, took an even bigger step to facilitate the tour of tourists and backpackers.
Mayan train
As of 2019, construction will begin on a railway which will tour the main points of manifestation of ancient cultures, as well as places little explored and that also reserve remnants of the past.
These remnants of ancient civilizations can be found in various places along the Mexico. From the capital – Mexico City – to the mega temple located next to the Caribbean Sea on the Yucatan Peninsula. With the project completed, the route can be visited much faster than before, not least because there is so much to see in Mexico.
There are more than 1,500 km to be covered along the peninsula formerly inhabited by the Mayan civilization. In all, there will be 17 stops in the southeastern Mexican states, where the Mayan culture is most present: Tabasco, Campeche, Chiapas, Yucatán and Quintana Roo. The work, whose interest is to move the local culture even more, and which has stimulated many investors in tourism, begins in 2019 and has an estimated value of 150 million pesos. The expiry date is 4 years, according to the statement of the current Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
According to investors, the construction of the Maya train will give a strong boost to the national economy, as it will far surpass the record 10 million tourists currently visiting the Yucatan Peninsula region, famous for its beaches bathed by the Caribbean Sea.
