Iconic icon of Casablanca in Morocco, the Hassan II Mosque is an example of impressive Moroccan architecture

Anyone visiting the economic capital of Morocco cannot miss visiting the grandiose Hassan II Mosque, the third largest in the world, the temple has an area of 20,000 square meters and a capacity for 25,000 worshipers. This is also the only mosque that accepts visits from non-Muslims within the country. Its unique structure erected in front of the sea, emerges in landscapes from different points of view. Casablanca, becoming the biggest postcard of the destination.

Considered one of the most beautiful Muslim mosques, the temple began to be built in 1986 and was completed only in 1993, requiring the help of 35,000 workers. The cost of this mega construction was close to 600 million euros (1.8 billion reais) and almost all Moroccan families were “invited” to donate some amount to the work.

The Hassan II Mosque was built to honor Mohammed V, father of Hassan II, former king of Morocco which reigned during the years from 1961 to 1999. One of the curiosities is the imposing viewpoint of the mosque, the highest in the world with 200 meters high, the size equivalent to a building with approximately 50 floors.

the inside of mosque It comprises a prayer room, an ablution (purification) room that contains 40 marble fountains for washing the feet and hands of Muslims, baths, a Koranic school (medersa), a library and a museum.

Outside the mosque it is possible to walk in an extensive courtyard made of marble filled with fountains decorated with mosaics and tiles. During prayer times the tours end and a siren is sounded in the mosque, and within minutes it is possible to notice a crowd of Moroccans slowly approaching and entering to hear the Quran, at these times only Muslims can enter the temple.

Saturday to Thursday: 10 am, 11 am
Friday: 2 pm

From September to June: extra hours at 14:00 and 15:00 (except for the month of Ramadan)
