Museum located in the historic center of Recife, has a collection that tells the history of the cultural movement of Pernambuco
Installed in the old building of the Western Telegraph, an English telegraph company that was deactivated until the 70's, the Paço do Frevo is a space totally dedicated to the preservation, research, culture and mainly to the dissemination of history and the most famous rhythm of Pernambuco's carnival, the frevo.
Right in front of Praça do Arsenal in old reef, the museum was inaugurated on February 9, 2014, the anniversary of the most important rhythm in the state, such relevance has given it the title of Cultural Heritage of Brazil by the Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (Iphan) and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO .
THE Paço do Frevo Museum It is also a cultural center with several attractions that encourage movement, always guaranteed in the facility. The three-story building offers exhibition spaces, a dance school, a music school and a rhythm documentation center since the beginning of the culture. There are different flavors that allow the traveler to dive headfirst into a vast universe of Frevo stories and memories.
At the entrance to the complex, the magic begins, the entirely red room with thousands of blank writings with the names of personalities and celebrities who were part of the history of the cultural rhythm and several screens with testimonies of some of the names mentioned on the wall form a charming and inviting to take advantage of the place to cool off by ordering a drink from the friendly bike truck installed in the environment.
On the first floor, a fixed exhibition begins in the corridor of the building, there are several old photos of working class citizens celebrating in the city streets, demonstrating all the authenticity and beauty of dance, on the other side an extensive timeline that begins in the year of 1900 tell us how cultuar proliferated in Brazil and in the world over time.
The dance school is focused on training and dissemination of frevo dance activities, as is the music school, both offering opportunities for physical and cultural professional development.
The top floor has a large space with an exhibition of 365 photos that show the routine and preparations of the revelers who participate in the carnival, along with the photos a string entitled “Recife Carnaval Frevo Passo a Passo” accompanies the incredible show that has a part of the hall. where the floor is entirely made of glass and holds a decent amount of colorful standards.
