Although Ushuaia is a popular destination on the coldest days of the year, the city manages to surprise tourists in other seasons. Tierra del Fuego National Park

The Tierra del Fuego National Park, created in 1960 with the aim of preserving local fauna and flora, is 11 km from the city and covers an area of 63,000 hectares.

This is a tour that can be done very calmly as the park offers numerous options for attractions. You can walk among the charming lenga forests (typical trees of Patagonia), discover the beautiful beaches of Bahia Lapataia, take an alternative tour on the End of the World Train and discover a reconstruction of an ancient settlement of the Yámanas, the first peoples who inhabited the region.

End of the World Train

The End of the World Train was adapted for tourism and uses part of the original route of the railroad built by prisoners in the late 18th and early 19th centuries to bring firewood from the frozen forests. The construction of the railway took place shortly after the inauguration of a prison building in the city of Ushuaia, which is now the current Maritime Museum.

After the prison was closed in 1947, the train continued to run for a sawmill until a major earthquake in 1949 destroyed it. Currently, only a locomotive and a passenger car remain in the Maritime Museum.

In 1994 a new train was built to take a contemplation tour along the last 7 km of the original path. On the tour you can enjoy the beautiful landscape and listen to the enigmatic history of the prisoners who worked on the way.
