The city of Cavalcante is home to the largest area of the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park and has imposing and not very busy waterfalls.
Located amidst the natural beauties of the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, the city of Cavalcante in Goiás, has been growing popular among travelers with adventurous and nature-loving profiles for a number of reasons. Its rugged geography and abundance of waters that spring and cut through this region of the cerrado form countless waterfalls in an area full of breathtaking landscapes.
THE Veadeiros Plateau is already a great national tourist destination thanks to some postcards of the destination and the mysticism and exoticism present in the municipality of Alto Paraíso and gives village of São Jorge. Unlike this more alternative universe, Cavalcante captivates its visitors with its peaceful atmosphere, its quiet streets, with almost no movement of tourists and residents, its history and the surreal scenery made up of gigantic mountains lined with paths and undergrowth, which can be seen from anywhere in the city.
The municipality occupies 60% of the territory of Veadeiros Plateau and it also has historic buildings, viewpoints, peculiar rock formations and wonderful river baths. If you like history, you will marvel at the region of Vai das Almas and Vai do Moleque, areas that are still home to the last quilombola community discovered in Brazil. These communities are originally formed by descendants of the first slaves who escaped from captivity and organized quilombos, starting to live in isolation, building their own identity and culture, with the African elements of their origin.
Even with a large number of waterfalls (more than hundreds), the waterfalls of Cavalcante are not so close to the city, being necessary to hire guides for most attractions, only waterfalls in private properties where there is already a tourist structure have self-guided trails.

Santa Barbara Waterfall
The clear waters of Cachoeira de Santa Bárbara is one of the main postcards of Chapada dos Veadeiros, its intensely blue color is due to the bottom of the well where the waterfall collapses having a bottom of fine white sand.
The attraction is accessed through a Kalunga community where it is necessary to take a trail towards the small oasis in the middle of a huge territory with undergrowth, a typical characteristic of the Cerrado.
Capybara Waterfall
One of the most beautiful waterfalls in Cavalcante, more precisely in the Kalunga do Engenho II community. Cachoeira da Capivara is a great alternative for those who want to enjoy the best that the city has to offer, because in addition to the beautiful waterfalls, there is also a viewpoint with a spectacular view.
Veredas Waterfall
To get to the Vereda waterfall it is necessary to make a 1500m trail to the base of a huge canyon, then just walk a short path between rocks and the river, making small climbs, the reward is a magnificent waterfall with 90m high.
Stone Bridge
An impressive 30m high natural stone arch spanning the São Domingos River located on the edge of the national park, a kind of natural divider in the Park.
Silver Waterfalls
Located at Fazenda Ouro Fino on a private property, the Rio do Prata waterfalls are 67km from Cavalcante in a fantastic region of Chapada dos Veadeiros where the Rio Prata flows and falls into several successive falls forming the complex.

Best time to visit Chapada dos Veadeiros
Photo: Livia Buhring
Chapada dos Veadeiros receives tourists throughout the year. The average annual temperature is 24 to 26ºC. The best time to practice adventures is the dry season, when the temperature is lower, it rains little and the rocks are not hot or slippery, preventing accidents and burns.
The best time to visit is from April to October, and in the months of July and August the waters are more crystalline due to the period of greater drought in the cerrado.
