The community Santa Marta is very close to one of the most visited viewpoints in Wonderful city and has already served as a stage for major music, TV and film productions. The community became known worldwide when the singer and pop icon, Michael Jackson, recorded the clip “They Don't Care About Us” with scenes that mix Pelourinho, in Salvador, and the famous Rio community.

The entire area reserved for the viewpoint is divided into two distinct views, both fabulous. The first overlooks Christ the Redeemer and part of the city and the other, a carioca postcard, is known as Viewpoint Dona Marta and looks out over the edge of Botafogo, with a privileged view of the Sugar Loaf, Maracanã, Guanabara Bay and Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.

This is one of the most touristy places in Rio de Janeiro and as it has free admission, several tour agencies and independent travelers arrive at the viewpoint, ensuring a continuous flow of visitors. Along the road you can also find locals walking or exercising in the Tijuca National Park.

How to get to Mirante Dona Marta

By car: the Viewpoint Dona Marta is located within the Tijuca National Park and can be accessed by car, on foot or by taxi. Free parking is available on site, but there is no internet signal. So if you are going to depend on apps, the ideal thing is to stay with the driver during the tour, otherwise you will have to go down part of the way walking to a bus stop or the beginning of Santa Teresa.

On foot: following Morro Dona Marta, climb to the top of the community and follow the trail that takes 30 to 50 minutes. The trail is steep and has a medium to high degree of difficulty. The ideal is to do this route with a specialized guide.
