THE retiree 60-year-old left St. Petersburg 22 months ago to walk around 24,000 kilometers. Sergei confirms that many acquaintances said that the completion of this dream would be impossible. But on February 4, 2017, the Russian proved everyone wrong.

To help him along the way, his friends set up a coordination center in St. Petersburg. According to Sergei, money was an important issue, because the retiree had to survive two years traveling only with his salary. Before retirement, Lukianov worked as a coach and had already set national records in the nearly 100 km walk. On the trip, however, I had a budget of only 500 rubles (about 26 reais) a day and covered between 50 and 60 km a day. When totaling the expenses, the trip around the world cost him no less than 1 million rubles (R$ 53,300).
