The news about the devastation of the Amazon Rainforest is increasingly frequent and in global evidence. Last year, the region recorded records of fire outbreaks and deforested area. According to INPE, around 11,100 km² of the legal Amazon were destroyed between August 2019 and July 2020. This represents almost 10% more than the same period of the previous year.
Allied to the purpose of attracting attention to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda of the global compact, the Run4Amazonia was born as an opportunity to connect people, brands and technology to an important cause: support for the protection of life in the Amazon region.
With the objective of putting thousands of people in various parts of the world to walk, run or cycle in favor of the Amazon, on its International Day celebrated on September 5th, the project proposes different goals that can be achieved by participants alone or accompanied by friends. and even pets.
To participate, the interested party chooses one of the challenges on the website www.run4amazonia.com.br. The higher the personal goal, the more prizes the participant receives between: certificates, medals and t-shirts and even handcrafted items such as the Nós Bracelet and Andiroba Oil.
The idea of the partners, Roberto Conte Jr., from the sports market, Cesar Kawabata, from information technology and Ricardo Espirito Santo, from the insurance segment, is to help foster regional entrepreneurship, involving riverside communities and indigenous villages. “This way, everyone connects with the Amazon as soon as they receive the participation awards”, explains Roberto.
Part of the value of registrations in the project will also be reverted to entities such as SOS Amazon (in Rio Branco – Acre) and the Amazon Development Institute (Manaus – Amazonas) that have been working for more than 15 years in the conservation of biodiversity, use of raw materials with responsible management, training of communities and detection and combating outbreaks of fires.
In the future, entrepreneurs have plans to establish a ranking with several countries in the world that are more engaged with this competition. “We combine a healthy lifestyle, sustainability, altruism and technology in a single business that will soon have an app.
This is more than a sports project, we are talking about the development of humanity. The quality of the oxygen needed to exercise and for everyday life is also our responsibility. R4M is an invitation to stimulate changes on the planet and we believe that many people will love to be part of this challenge for life”, said Roberto.
How to participate
Run4Amazonia seeks to encourage participants of different ages, even if they are not in the habit of exercising. “We want to attract different profiles, from long-distance runners to those who do not run or walk. The practice of outdoor exercises is the best way to face this moment when we are more isolated and emotionally moved by the unfolding of the pandemic. Just like the forest, our body is also an ecosystem and needs to be taken care of”, explains Conte.
Applications to participate in the project are now available. The interested party accesses the website www.run4amazonia.com.br and register, choosing between one of the 3k, 5k, 10k and 21k challenges. Then, you need to download one of the free running apps already on the market, they are: Nike+ Running, Runkeeper, Strava, Runtastic and Sports Tracker.
The first challenge has a date to take place, it will be on September 5th, in International Day of the Amazon. At this meeting, those registered will be able to cover the chosen goal by running, walking, accompanied or not.
After this milestone, each runner chooses the day and time that best suit their schedule for the other routes.
With each new challenge, the participant is awarded a medal. United, the medals form a mandala that refers to the terms of protection of the Amazon.
An integral part of the awards, the “We” bracelets, produced in the Ribeirinha Pedra Branca Community, on the island of Cotijuba in Pará, also form a necklace symbolizing the “link” that the project seeks to establish between the participants who, like the Run4Amazonia, defend this universal heritage.
“What has made us proud is the receptivity of companies and brands, engaged with the Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) and with a look at the Global Compact and the 2030 Agenda″. For Run4Amazônia entrepreneurs, who seek the support of partners and sponsors, this topic is and will continue to be relevant in the coming years.
“R4M is a strategic alternative for brands and products to connect to this journey of encouraging healthy living, conscious and inclusive attitudes that find potential customers at one end”.
