Itinerary in Chapada dos Veadeiros

Day 1 – Loquinhas Waterfall

THE Veadeiros Plateau It has such a large territorial extension that there are 7 points for you to choose where to stay and start exploring the region.

The most famous are the municipalities of Alto Paraíso de Goiás, Cavalcante and the village of São Jorge. We decided to start the journey by Alto Paraíso, the closest municipality to Brasilia.

We arrived at 10 am (2:30 hours of travel by car), perfect time to have a hearty breakfast in the city, check in at the hotel (we chose Alfa & Omega Inn) and look for the first waterfall we were going to visit.

the complex Loquinhas Waterfall it is the closest to the city, just 14 km away, with access via a dirt road where travelers can already begin to admire the beauties of the region.

Hills, fauna and flora typical of the cerrado and an immense sky with an intense blue are part of this small route. There are 8 stops, namely: Poço Jacutinga, Poço do Curupira, Poço Curumins, Poço da Vovó, Poço Siriema, Poço do Xamã, Poço do Pajé and the Cachoeira da Loquinhas.

The route is made on a 1 km trail made with wood and is suitable for all ages.

In the evening we had dinner at the Cravo e Canela restaurant, with great options of homemade vegetarian food in a cozy, rustic and well located atmosphere.

Day 2 – São Bento Farm: Almécegas I, II and São Bento Waterfall

On the second day of the itinerary, we decided to go to another very close and famous option in the city, Fazenda São Bento. The road to get to the waterfalls is great, and the view is an attraction in itself. To access the waterfalls, you need to pay a small fee.

The best option is to start with the two furthest from the entrance. To get to the Almécegas waterfall it is necessary to walk 1.5 km of trail. The visitor is impressed before arrival with an incredible viewpoint that allows a view from above the waterfall.

This attraction has two other points to enjoy: the immense lagoon in shades of green with a wide view and close to the waterfall (45 m high) and the natural pools that form at the top of the waterfall.

The access to the Almécegas waterfall II is just 400 m of easy trail from the parking lot. The waterfall has a beautiful drop of 15 meters and an immense well for bathing. Then we went to the São Bento waterfall, the closest to the entrance and the busiest on the farm. The waterfall has an immense well of dark waters and a 6m high drop.

THE São Bento Farm It has a complete structure for those who want to better enjoy this special place in the chapada, offering rooms for guests, and adventure activities such as zip lines, biking trails and horseback riding.

Day 3 – Moon Valley and Maytrea Garden

We separate our 3rd from itinerary in Chapada dos Veadeiros day to discover one of the most mystical places in the chapada: the Valley of the Moon.

The place gained fame for housing a set of rock formations dug into the rocks by the rapids of transparent waters of the São Miguel River, forming a lunar scenario, giving rise to small whirlpools and funnels.

Then we went to enjoy the sunset at Maytrea's Garden. A huge open field with paths. A sacred place for mystics, who believe there is a portal to another dimension. From there we continued running to pack our bags and stay in the friendly Vila de São Jorge.

#Dia4 – National Park: Saltos, Canyons, and Carioquinhas

We chose the village of São Jorge as the second stopping point of the itinerary as it is closer to the entrance to the park. The friendly village is very rustic and has dirt streets, a wonderful place to disconnect and access the trails at the entrance to the national park.

The park retains only some of the attractions in the region and is 10 minutes from the village of São Jorge by car. We decided to do the two most coveted Jumps of 120 and 80 meters with a trail of 11 km and the canyons + carioquinhas with a trail of 12 km.

Tip: For the more adventurous it is also possible to do the Travessia das Sete Quedas – there are 23.5 km of trail that can be done in 2 or 3 days camping at night, in which you go through all the different landscapes of the Cerrado.

We ended the night at Risoteria Santo Cerrado, a cozy and busy restaurant that, as its name suggests, specializes in risottos. In addition to the flagship, the house offers snacks, salads (such as Camponata do Cerrado, made with baru nuts), side dishes and desserts.

#Dia5 – Abyss Waterfall and Window Viewpoint

We took the second tour closest to the village, the Abismo waterfall and the Janela viewpoint. The trail starts 800 m before the main entrance to the park and starts with a 2 km dirt road with a slight climb. Upon reaching the parking lot, there is a sculpture with a huge quartz crystal and two fallen tree trunks, a great place to recharge.

Then we start the trail to the Abyss waterfall, which forms an incredible pool with an infinity edge and a panoramic view of the mountains in front of the attraction. Then we leave for the main postcard of the chapada, the viewpoint of Janela overlooking the Saltos do Rio Preto, the trail has a steep climb, but all the effort is rewarded with a magnificent view of the park, making you feel tiny in in the midst of so much nature. The ideal is to enjoy the sunset at the viewpoint.

We went to the inn Trilha Violeta and packed our bags to go to Cavalcante, the municipality that occupies the largest area of the park.

#Dia6 – Cavalcante: Rio da Prata

We did the tours in Cavalcante with the Zaltana Agency and we followed the Rio da Prata circuit very early. The complex houses 11 different falls (Pratinha I, Três Marias, Poço das Fadas, Cortina, Passador, Escondido, Rei do Prata, Rainha, Preto Velho, Urubu Rei and Princesa) but only 9 have access.

You will hardly get to know him in just one day. To get there it is necessary to take 64 km of dirt road, it is advisable to go with a 4×4 car, to have an idea we did the route in 2 hours. The main attraction of this circuit is the Rei do Prata, which has an immense well the size of an Olympic swimming pool with a depth of 10 meters.

#Dia7 – Santa Bárbara Waterfall and Capybara Waterfall

on the last day of itinerary in Chapada dos Veadeiros we decided to close with a flourish, visiting two majestic city attractions on the same day. The destination was the Kalunga Povoado do Engenho II community, 27 km from the center of Cavalcante. On the way we were able to contemplate the wonderful view from Mirante Nova Aurora overlooking immense hills, paths and gardens. Very close to there we also stopped at the viewpoint for the view of the Ave Maria waterfall.

When you arrive in the community, go straight to the CAT (Tourist Assistance Center) and hire your guide to discover the attractions. We followed Santa Bárbara first, the trail is easily accessible and has a nice stop called Santa Bárbarinha, just a sample of what is to come. The big attraction is 28 meters high and plummets into a beautiful pool of blue waters. The waterfall is surrounded by an immense wall of stones swallowed by native forests, transforming the environment into an immense oasis in the middle of the savannah.

After the tour, we had lunch at the house of a resident of the Kalunga community. We went to the wood stove and there was rice, beans, sautéed pumpkin, cooked chicken, farofa with pieces of meat. Simple and delicious food!

The landscape of this waterfall resembles scenes from the movie Avatar, there are two falls of 40 meters each from a different river. To the right of the Capivara River and to the left of the Tiririca River, they head towards a wonderful viewpoint in a gigantic canyon.
