Fortress Canyon

The Fortaleza Canyon is the largest in the region. With up to 900 meters high, its walls extend for about 7.5 kilometers. It is located within the Serra Geral National Park and there are two trails that allow you to visit it: the Mirante Trail and the Tigre Preto Waterfall Trail.

The Mirante Trail, the park's main trail, is 3 kilometers long and, at its top, allows you to see the canyon in its entirety. 

The one at Cachoeira do Tigre Preto offers a partial view of the canyon, but leads to a 40-meter high waterfall. From there it is also possible to reach Pedra do Segredo, a rock formation that seems to be balanced on a small base 50 centimeters wide.

Itaimbezinho Canyon

With 5.8 kilometers long and walls up to 720 meters high, the Cânion Itaimbezinho is the most famous in the Serra Gaúcha. 

Located in the Aparados da Serra National Park, Itaimbezinho can be explored in three ways: the Vértice Trail, the Cotovelo Trail and the Rio do Boi Trail.

The Vértice Trail is 1.5 km long and allows you to contemplate the upper part of the canyon. The Cotovelo Trail is much longer, with 6 kilometers, and follows the edge of the canyon. While the Rio do Boi Trail runs through the interior of Itaimbezinho and reveals waterfalls and rivers.

Fortaleza and Itaimbezinho are the most imposing in the region, but there are other canyons that can be explored. If you have time and energy on your way through Cambará do Sul, try walking along the edges of the Malacara, Churriado, Corujão and Rio-Leão canyons. 

In Malacara, there are natural pools that are great for bathing on warmer days. The walk to them is 6 kilometers. 


In addition to the many waterfalls in the canyons, Cambará do Sul has other waterfalls that can be visited outside the parks. 

One of them is the Cachoeira dos Venâncios, 23 kilometers from the city. The sequence of waterfalls is located at Fazenda Cachoeira, on the Camisas River, which begins in the Aparados da Serra National Park. 

Another option is the Nassucar Waterfall, which is 60 meters high. She is at Fazenda Santana and is part of the horseback ride through the property.
