Super Nintendo World, Universal Studios Japan's new themed area, announces opening date and shares photos of the new complex
Since its announcement two years ago, the world has been eagerly awaiting more news about the Super Nintendo World, new thematic area of Universal Studios Japan.
The Covid-19 pandemic has slightly delayed Universal Studios Japan's plans, but the Super Nintendo World finally got an opening date: February 4, 2021.
Located in Osaka, the new attraction of Universal Studios Japan will bring to life the worlds, characters and adventures gamers have been following over the years.
The opening will also kick off the 20th anniversary celebrations for the Japanese park. THE Super Nintendo World will feature characters like Mario Kart and Yoshi – themed and attractions, as well as restaurants, shops and other themed spaces.
New footage from Mario Kart: The Koopa Challenge was recently released, as well as new footage of the land and interior of Bowser's Castle. This latest experience sees guests running with Mario and Princess Peach, and throwing shells to knock down opponents, while Yoshi's Adventure ride features a treasure hunt amid spectacular views of the Mushroom Kingdom.
Bowser's Castle will be instantly recognizable to video game fans and now guests can venture into a real-world version of the game.
The park is currently operating at a restricted capacity and fully implementing stringent measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, with guests provided with ample personal space and shorter wait times for popular attractions.
Tickets and attractions
Wait times for each attraction can be verified in real-time via a Super Nintendo World app, and tickets can be purchased from the park's virtual store for easy entry.
