Tips for Eilat, in the extreme south of Israel, check out some options for tours, accommodation and must-see attractions in the destination
Check out the travel report of Melissa Freitas in the city of Eilat, in Israel, and discover interesting attractions of this amazing destination!
Visiting Israel was a dream come true, after spending months planning the trip, I decided to visit Eilat.
Initially I planned to stay just one day there, as I would cross the border to reach Jordan, our final destination would be Petra, but when I arrived in the city I was surprised and ended up staying there for 3 days in total, two before crossing the border, and one day back.
In this post I have separated the best of Eilat for you, I hope you like it, and are surprised by the city, as I am.
How many days do you stay in Eilat
Deciding how many days you will be staying in the city is a good start to planning the tours you will take there during your stay.
As I visited Israel in winter, the weather in Tel Aviv was not very good, besides the cold, I got a lot of rain and wind, so a getaway to Eilat seemed like an excellent idea.
As I said before, my plan was to spend just one day, but after taking a look at the weather forecast and discovering some different tours there.
My tip is to book two nights for the city if you go in winter, in the summer I recommend booking three, so you can enjoy the sea and the beachy climate of the city.
Where to stay in Eliat
After a lot of research, I chose to stay at Isrotel Riviera Club, a three star hotel with excellent value for money in the city.
The hotel is not luxurious, but it has a large bedroom, with a small kitchen and a living room. In addition, the hotel's location is really privileged, just a few meters from the beach and next to a shopping mall.
In June 2020 an excellent hostel option is coming to town, the famous tour company in Israel. Abraham Tours will open its establishment in Eilat. This will in fact be another good option for travelers who want to explore the best of the city, without losing comfort, but also without spending a lot.
The hostel promises to bring modern dorms as well as private rooms. Amenities include a bar, lounge and swimming pool, which will be huge pluses considering Eilat is a beach town.
Attractions in Eilat
Eilat offers a number of attractions that attract the attention of thousands of tourists who visit it every year, among the main ones, the city's Marine Park Observatory is a must.
After a delicious lunch on the beachfront, go meet him and enjoy one of the coolest aquariums in the world. Admission is 99 shekels per adult, a price I think is pretty fair.
Another must-see is the Sunset Sail and Snorkel, a boat tour along the waterfront of Eilat offered by Abraham tours.
At the beginning of the tour I was surprised to see some dolphins very close to the boat. Then the boat went to the point where it would stop for our dive, and there they offered snorkeling for everyone. A lot of people don't know, but Eilat has several coral reefs, and they are really beautiful, the marine life there is very rich and diverse.
From the boat to the reefs you have to swim a good few meters, as I'm not so sure of my swimming in the high seas, I didn't have the courage, but the people on the boat went and loved it. They reported that they saw beautiful fish and many different species, while I took the opportunity to take beautiful pictures with the view of the Red Sea and the deserts around the city.
On the way back we passed by Dolphin Reef Beach, a small beach where about 4 dolphins live and are fed by the local staff, which makes their presence there every day.
Finally, we watched the sunset on the boat, with one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen, this day was really very special.
Another tour that I also did with Abraham Tours and I recommend it, was to Timna Park, in the Negev desert. The driver took us to iconic spots in Timna Park such as the arches, Solomon's pillars and an oasis in the middle of the desert.
My tip for you is to go with appropriate walking shoes and comfortable clothes.
Where to take the tours?
I take the opportunity to leave a tip for you, they were made with the Abraham tours, which is a company that works very seriously in the country. They were super kind from the beginning of the conversation helping us to choose the tours, not to mention the prices that are very good too.
Another very interesting fact about the city is that it is TAX FREE, that is, it means that there you can buy electronics and clothes with prices around 17% cheaper than in other cities in the country.
Overall Eilat surprised me very positively, the city has many tourist attractions, excellent accommodation options and interesting restaurants. If you are going to Israel, especially if you are going to cross the border on your way to Petra, be sure to stay at least two days in the city, you will be surprised.
