Historic high worries travelers. US currency hits its high once again with tourism dollar selling for R$ 5.94
São Paulo – Investigation carried out this Friday afternoon (24), presented another tourism dollar high, after a sequence of devaluation of the national currency. This time with a margin of R$ 1 more than on February 27, two months ago.
For purchases made at exchange offices using the prepaid credit card, the dollar is quoted at R$ 6.45. These values were found at brokerages and exchange houses in the cities of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasília, while the euro reached the amount of R$ 6.42 and the pound R$ 7.38, both in paper money.
In January of this year, the tourism dollar, which was already operating at successive highs, was being sold at R$ 4.39. This steady increase has already guaranteed a difference of more than 0.60 cents in a few weeks, generating dissatisfaction and making life difficult for those who were planning to travel or live abroad in the coming months.
The price of foreign currencies fluctuates daily and this is nothing new, but experts already consider that this time the value has reached a new historic record, with the commercial dollar operating close to R$ 5.70 as published on the portal Uol News.
Dollar, euro and pound operate higher after Moro exit
As currencies move in parallel, the tourism dollar, mainly quoted for issuing air tickets and for travel expenses, is operated by exchange offices. This always has a higher value than the commercial dollar.
The signs present since 2019 show a complicated start to the year for the Brazilian economy, aggravated by a global crisis. The erosion in the domestic market leads to a retraction of international investments. The day was also marked by a drop in the 7% exchange.
Although we do not have a clear forecast of what the coming weeks will be like, the loss of value of the real against other currencies worries not only travelers, but also the government. This made it one more task for the minister of the economy, who had already been criticized for the comment made about the maids at disney.
In other words, scenarios of political instability and a climate of tension abroad worsen the situation here. Now, with the departure of Justice Minister Sérgio Moro, the scenario becomes more nebulous. New factors such as the coronavirus also begin to further influence the devaluation of the currency. All this increases the difference between the commercial dollar and the tourism dollar. In fact, in the midst of so many uncertainties, travelers are left with postponing plans to travel abroad or bending over backwards to achieve travel with the dollar soaring.
