Tourism tips in Porto, one of the Portuguese pearls that needs to be included in your travel itinerary through Portuguese lands

Winter is here and you want to escape the cold (preferably to another country) and go to a place in the northern hemisphere that offers pleasant heat, beautiful beaches, safety and mouth-watering cuisine? How about visiting the Portuguese land, more specifically in the famous city of Harbor? Like the idea? We have separated some travel tips for you to enjoy the Portuguese European summer on this vacation.

Sights not to be missed

If this is your first time in Porto and you don't know where to start, and you don't even have time to visit everything, here's a short list of places you can't leave for later. Douro River and Ponte D. Luís are two pleasant places to start your walking tour.

The Douro River itself is born in Spain and is the third longest river in the Iberian Peninsula and you can take several boat trips to enjoy the landscapes without having to walk far. The Palácio da Bolsa de Porto has an Arab architecture with peculiar colors, nowadays used for various cultural events, including even weddings and baptisms.

If you're looking for a slightly more bohemian vibe, check out the Music House and on Livraria Lello, in which his stairs were used as inspiration by the author JK Rowling (during the period she lived in Porto) to write Harry Potter.

Where to eat

Clearly when talking about Porto, the first thing that comes to mind is the famous Port wine. But in addition to the renowned bottles, which gastronomic peculiarities Porto has to offer? To begin with, it was in Porto that the famous caldo verde was born, the delicious cabbage soup that is enjoyed throughout the country and the world.

The city also offers an immense amount of fresh fish, not only from the sea, but also from rivers such as trout, lampeia and shad. However, the specialties seem to focus on pork, with dishes such as tripe à moda do Porto, francesinha and sausages from Chaves or Mirandela.

If you are looking for something more rustic and with a traditional cuisine, stop by the restaurant O Paparico. If your 'beach' is a place with a privileged view and a very traditional cuisine, Portucale or Barão de Fladgate should be included in your list. Now, if your focus is to eat in harmony with a tasting of wines from the region (and you don’t mind spending “a little more”), bet on the The Yeatman, restaurant of the wine hotel and with two Michelin stars. Tastier impossible!

Night life

If you're traveling with friends and want to enjoy a vibrant nightlife, you've come to the right place! Porto has a young population hungry for modern and high quality bars, both in terms of drinks and music, so there will be plenty of options for bars and clubs.

Your vibe is it more pubs and craft beers? From a pass then on Bierhaus, Fábrica da Picaria and in Take Brewpub. If you want to go out at night to enjoy good live music, Mirajazz, Maus Hábitos and hot five are what you are looking for.

Where to stay

Nowadays, with the advent of technology, it is much easier to discover the various types of accommodation and ideal locations for your stay depending on your tastes and preferences.

Hotels can be comfortable, but to get to know the city of Porto from an almost local perspective, with more privacy, freedom, space and also the possibility of cooking local ingredients yourself, the ideal is to rent your house or apartment.

From villas (summer houses) to apartments in the urban center, just set your priorities (relax, buy or tourist?) and the type of trip you have in mind (business, with family or with friends) and filter your ideal spot to enjoy Porto in the best possible way.
