We can consider Pirenópolis a complete destination: the charming little town preserves an inland atmosphere, however, it has a great structure to receive tourists.

History lovers will be impressed by its preserved historic center, rich in listed buildings, cobbled streets and colonial mansions.

Nohowever, those who prefer adventure will find their place in the sun, as the city's ecotourism offers are abundant. There are several waterfalls that can be visited, as well as rivers, viewpoints and perfect places to practice sports in nature. Check out some of the must-see attractions in the city below:

historic center

The historic center of the city is full of old buildings, such as the Mother Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, considered the oldest church in the state of Goiás, dating from 1732. The building has undergone several transformations and restorations since then, being considered a true postcard. From there it is possible to get an incredible and panoramic view of the city.

Still in the historic center, be sure to visit some of the small museums that the city offers and that help tourists discover more about the city. Highlight for the Rodas do Tempo Museum, which offers a rich collection of vehicles that work on two wheels. There is also the Museu do Divino, located in the old prison of the municipality, which rescues the history of the Festa do Divino, a typical regional celebration.

Serra dos Pirineus State Park

The huge Parque dos Pirineus is approximately 20 kilometers from Pirenópolis. Among several attractions, there is the ascent to Pico dos Pireneus, from where it is possible to obtain one of the most exciting views of the region, at more than 1300 meters high. The path, which passes through beautiful species of fauna and flora typical of the cerrado, is accessible by car and runs along a winding stretch of dirt road. Afterwards, it is necessary to continue walking for half an hour until reaching the top, where there is a small chapel. Try to visit the place at sunset, whose golden lights make the landscape even more beautiful.

Pirenópolis is famous for its waterfalls, offering several options for cooling off. To give you an idea, there are more than 80 waterfalls to visit, some of them located in the Serra dos Pirineus State Park, such as the Abade Waterfall, with more than 22 meters high and a well perfect for bathing.

The Rosário Waterfall also deserves special attention: surrounded by a lot of green, it has a crystal clear waterfall that slides over the rocks. Finally, Cachoeira das Araras is one of the most visited in the region, offering easy access and an incredible natural pool, as well as space for children.

Part of the city's history can be rescued on a visit to some of the old farms that now live off tourism and open their doors to visitors. This is the case of Fazenda Babilônia, which has more than 200 years of history and a mansion from the 17th century still preserved. During the visit, it is possible to have a typical “sertanejo coffee”, original from the time, as a true step back in time. On the menu, there are more than 40 delicacies, between sweet and savory, which can be tasted by tourists.

The cuisine is another highlight in the city. After a day full of hiking adventures and, of course, waterfalls, you can recharge your batteries with delicious typical dishes. The highlights are the empadão goiano, the chicken and dishes prepared with pequi, an ingredient often used to complement the menus. At dessert time, there are several options for sweets, such as pamonhas, prepared with corn.

Now that you've checked out all the tips to enjoy the beauties of the cerrado with a rental car on a route from Goiânia to Pirenópolis, just pack your bags and get ready to enjoy all these attractions.
