Measure will be taken to protect Machu Picchu from landslides caused by heavy rains

The Archaeological Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, in Peru, will undergo an intense reforestation program. The measure was announced by the country's president, Martin Vizcarra, which informed the need to protect the Inca symbol from the intense rains that occur during the summer months.

according to a article published by the newspaper O Globo, Vizcarra reported that more than one million trees will be planted. In addition, the president also informed that this goal “is an obligation of the government, the region, the municipality and all citizens who want to protect one of the wonders of the world”.

The report also informs that experts from the Ministry of the Environment of the country see the planting of trees as something extremely necessary. This will be important not only to protect the archaeological site from possible landslides, but also to preserve the flora and fauna that surround the region.

Last Sunday, for example, the company responsible for the train route to the lost city of the Incas interrupted services for safety reasons after a landslide. However, the train resumed normal operation a few hours later.
